EXETER — The physicians at Access Sports Medicine & Orthopedics are pleased to welcome Jeffrey Smith, MD, to their practice.
dr. Smith is a graduate of the University of Miami, Leonard M Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
His professional affiliations include the Association of Academic Physiatrists, American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the Spine Intervention Society.
dr. Smith specializes in the evaluation and treatment of back pain, non-surgical spine care, and musculoskeletal medicine. His areas of expertise include the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and pain syndromes, fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided interventional procedures of the extremities and spine, and electrodiagnostic medicine.
His primary interest is in restoring the function and quality of life of patients. When he’s out of the office, Dr. Smith enjoys tennis, hiking, biking, skiing and kayaking.
He will be accepting new patients from August 2022 at the Access Sports Medicine & Orthopedics site in Exeter.

New England Cancer Specialists welcomes new doctor
SCARBOROUGH, Maine – New England Cancer Specialists (NECS), the region’s largest oncology practice, welcomes Dr. Jonathan Proulx as the newest member of his medical team.
Proulx will see patients primarily at the Portsmouth office, as well as the practice’s Kennebunk location.
Proulx grew up in western Massachusetts and attended Western New England University for his undergraduate degree.
After a stint as a high school chemistry teacher, he attended medical school at St. George’s University. He later completed his residency at the Jefferson University branch in Morristown, NJ, where he earned a degree in Medical Humanities and the A. Lester Granet Humanitarian Award for the Atlantic Health System.
Proulx completed his fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Campus in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Proulx said he was honored to join the independent practice for its benefits to patients. “Being able to form relationships with patients and work closely with a healthcare team is what drew me to community oncology,” he said. “New England Cancer Specialists has an excellent reputation for providing top quality care and has strong relationships with other leaders in cancer care, such as the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Lisa McBride Appointed Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine
HANOVER — Geisel School of Medicine Dean Duane Compton, PhD, has appointed Lisa McBride, PhD, as the school’s associate dean for diversity, equality and inclusion (ADDEI), effective Aug. 8. McBride is a nationally recognized expert in URiM (underrepresented in medicine) faculty and student recruitment, health equity, and strategic planning for diversity and inclusion with over ten years of experience leading diversity efforts and over 25 years of academic experience.

McBride comes to Dartmouth from Texas Christian University (TCU) School of Medicine, where she served as associate dean for diversity and inclusion and professor of medical education. During her tenure at TCU, McBride developed several signature programs in an effort to achieve Inclusive Excellence, including the Diversity and Inclusion Mentoring Network program, Med Safe Zone training, the Black Men in White Coats initiative, a Surgeons General Roundtable series , the Out for Health Student Conference, a Latina STEM+M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics plus Medicine) and Biomedical Opportunities Summer Pipeline program, and a longitudinal Health Equity curriculum track.
Prior to joining TCU, she held similar leadership positions in diversity for Salem State University (MA), Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, California University of Pennsylvania, and faculty positions within the Florida College System.

In her new role at Geisel, McBride will lead the medical school’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement, working closely with Geisel’s senior leadership and Dartmouth’s senior vice president and senior diversity officer, as well as the leadership from Dartmouth Health, the White River Junction Veteran Affairs Medical Center and Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, to build a diverse and inclusive community of learners. She will play a key role in developing and implementing new diversity and inclusivity initiatives in support of Geisel’s upcoming strategic plan.
Atlantic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Announces New Physician Assistant
PORTSMOUTH — Atlantic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine announce the addition of a new provider to their practice. Jacob Lareau, has joined the team as a Physician Assistant (PA). Lareau recently completed his Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts. Adding him to the team will help Atlantic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine provide patients with faster access to exceptional orthopedic care.
“My mission as a Physician Assistant is to provide quality, compassionate care while restoring function and helping patients get back to doing what they love most,” said Lareau. Outside of work, Lareau enjoys hiking, surfing and dirt biking.
