LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, August 3, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Bamboo Health™, formerly Appriss Health and PatientPing, a healthcare technology solutions company focused on advancing healthcare collaboration and providing information and actionable insights across the entire healthcare continuum. today announced its expanded partnership with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy to offer Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) integration into the electronic health record (EHR) of Iowa providers and pharmacy management systems. The state-wide integration program was launched on June 15.
Providers and dispensers across the state can now directly access PMP data within clinical workflows through Bamboo Health’s PMP Gateway solution. The solution enables seamless interweaving of PMP data with EHRs, pharmacy management systems and health information exchange. The State of Iowa will continue to create safer prescribing patterns through the use of PMP Gateway, saving prescribers and providers time to focus on patient care. Working with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, Bamboo Health was able to launch the statewide PMP Gateway solution within two and a half weeks, quickly integrating key data directly into healthcare providers’ electronic health records.
“PMP integration into electronic health records and pharmacy distribution systems is a key component to increasing the efficiency of access to information at the point of patient care. We look forward to the benefits Iowa patients and providers bring from this initiative,” said Andrew Funk, Pharm.D., CPM, Executive Director of the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.
Currently, there are more than 38,000 prescribers and providers in the state of Iowa who have access to the PMP through Bamboo Health’s PMP AWARxE solution. Through the collaboration of Bamboo Health and the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, users can now integrate the data into clinicians’ workflows through the PMP Gateway solution. The improvement will be funded through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Overdose Data to Action (OD2A).
“We are excited to expand our partnership with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, providing state prescribers and dispensing agents with real-time access to PMP data at the point of care,” said Rob Cohen, chief executive officer of Bamboo Health. “The time saved from direct integration allows caregivers to focus on what matters most: the patient and their care plan.”
Currently, Bamboo Health administers 44 of the country’s 54 PMPs (also known as prescription drug monitoring programs or PDMPs) in states and territories. In the past year, Bamboo Health solutions delivered controlled substance insights in more than 100 million patient contacts per month, directly in electronic health records and pharmacy management systems.
