Hauptman is a nationally recognized researcher in outcome assessment in advanced heart failure, cardiac care evaluation and clinical trials. Hauptman is currently Dean of the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine-Knoxville and Chief Academic Officer of the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He will begin his appointment on October 17.
A first-generation American and university graduate, Hauptman received his doctorate in medicine from Cornell University Medical College and completed his training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston and cardiology fellowships at both Mount Sinai Hospital as Brigham and Women.
At the University of Tennessee, Hauptman has invested deeply in expanding research capabilities, faculty development, and health equity issues through initiatives such as the Academic Leadership Academy, a Women in Science fund, Disparities Awareness Month, and the Advancing Access to Careers in Science Scholars program.
