Four innovators named in advancing health equity solutions

They are Mrs. Donna Thompson, RNMS, Dr. Lisa GreenDO, MPH, Ukraine Medical Association – state of Illinoisand University of Illinois– Department of Emergency Medicine. University of Illinois Health System launched the Better Health Through Housing program in 2016 to provide a path from homelessness to housing for hundreds of ER frequent users who were homeless. On any given night in the UIC ER, up to 50% of people seeking care may be homeless. The Better Health Through Housing provides a path from emergency care to permanent housing. The Dedicated UI System $250,000 more than 5 years ago to start this project. Since then, hundreds of people who are chronically homeless and suffer from chronic conditions that often lead to disabilities have been given a path to stability. The program includes case management for chronic care and a connection to their Medicaid health plan (if they qualify) that maximizes their chances of care management and stable access to primary care, their medications, and other stabilizing treatments.

Ukraine Medical Association of North America-State of Illinois
The Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) Illinois Chapter kicked off a Ukraine initiative in late February. Their activities include fundraising events, organizing medical supplies to ship to Ukraine, working together and organizing doctors, nurses, caregivers and volunteers to form a core team. They were in constant contact with peers in Ukraine and identified the most urgent needs for medical supplies, equipment and medicines. These efforts include organizing and shipping supplies from major corporations, communities, Rotary Clubs, distributors and manufacturers of medical supplies, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals and clinics.
