Jessica Snowden, MD
| LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine has named Jessica Snowden, MD, as its vice dean for research, effective July 1.
Snowden, professor and chief of the Infectious Diseases Division of the university’s Department of Pediatrics, is a nationally recognized expert in pediatric infectious diseases and pediatric clinical and translational research.
“Dr. Snowden brings great research experience to her new role,” said Susan Smyth, MD, Ph.D., UAMS’ executive vice chancellor and dean of the College of Medicine.
Since being hired for UAMS in 2018, Snowden has held numerous leadership roles at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s, including Vice Chair for Research in the Division of Pediatrics since 2019 and Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases since 2020. She has also served as an associate director. for clinical and translational research at the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute since 2019 and is co-director of human resources development at the UAMS Translational Research Institute.
In May 2021, Snowden was invested as the Horace C. Cabe Distinguished Chair for Infectious Diseases at Arkansas Children’s.
She received her medical degree in 2002 from Texas A&M College of Medicine, completed her pediatric residency at East Carolina University/University Health Systems, and completed a pediatric infectious disease fellowship at UAMS before holding faculty positions at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University.
She succeeds Nancy Rusch, Ph.D., who stepped down from the research position to focus on her other roles as a distinguished professor and chair of the College of Medicine Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and co-director of major training and personnel development programs at the University of Applied Sciences.
