ConnectRx tackles pharmacy desert issues in the local community with free home delivery
ALBANY, NY – December 15, 2021 – When national retail chains closed their doors in downtown Albany earlier this year, locals wondered where to fill their prescriptions. CDPHP is proud to address the concerns of local desert pharmacies with the grand opening of ConnectRx Hometown.
Conveniently located in Watervliet, the space has been transformed to best meet the needs of the local community – and not just CDPHP members. In addition, it is one of the few pharmacies in the region to offer free home delivery in neighboring areas, including temperature-controlled, life-saving drugs such as insulin.
“Today’s grand opening of ConnectRx Hometown is another important step in our quest to transform the way patients access healthcare in our community,” said John D. Bennett, MD, President and CEO of CDPHP† “Along with our historic partnership with Community Care Physicians, PC, and the opening of our multispecialty building at Clifton Park, 1785 Route 9, CDPHP is well on track to create an integrated delivery system that puts the patient first .”
“I am so pleased that CDPHP is expanding further into the community pharmacy space with a retail location that has been part of the Watervliet community for over 60 years,” said Eileen Wood, Executive Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer for CDPHP† “In addition, the ConnectRx Hometown business model and innovative automation will allow pharmacists to spend more time with patients to ensure they receive the personalized care they deserve.”
“It’s always a win for our community when a company is able to find innovative ways to serve customers in a personal, caring manner,” said Mark Eagan, President of the Capital Region Chamber† “We are delighted to welcome ConnectRx Hometown in Watervliet to better serve the pharmacy needs of the area.”
Assembly Member John T. McDonald III said: “Pharmacy deserts are a reality, especially in urban and rural areas. No better example is the 108th Assembly district where in a short time and within 10 miles, four national chain pharmacies left the area due to sustainability in Simultaneous, and I see this from the first hand to government and pharmacy, we rely even more on a “health at home” system that requires caregivers to meet patients where they are. ConnectRx Hometown will help fill the void left by the departure of others, but will also help raise awareness of the issue of the pharmacy desert, which requires government attention and greater commitment from suppliers. Much has been learned from the COVID-19 pandemic regarding health inequalities and the role played by pharmacy can play to address those differences. As a sales representative, as well as a pharmacy colleague, I welcome ConnectRx Hometown as a partner in providing a solution.”
“The opening of ConnectRx Hometown demonstrates the confidence CDPHP has in our community,” said Karel V. Patricelli, Mayor, City of Watervliet† “We welcome you not only as a business partner, but also as a neighbor in our family. †
